About

About the PROMETHEUS Research Project

PROMETHEUS is an independent research and publication project dedicated to understanding the infrastructure of the Intelligence Age.

The project examines a fundamental transformation now underway: artificial intelligence is moving beyond software and becoming increasingly dependent upon—and integrated with—the physical systems that power, connect, manufacture, transport, and govern modern civilization.

PROMETHEUS studies this transformation through a systems perspective, examining artificial intelligence, advanced computing, energy, communications, space infrastructure, intelligent physical systems, and human governance as interconnected components of an emerging technological civilization.

Our Mission

The mission of PROMETHEUS is to develop clear, rigorous, and accessible research that helps readers understand not only individual technologies, but the larger infrastructure being created as those technologies converge.

PROMETHEUS seeks to distinguish established facts from analysis and forward-looking scenarios, while examining both the opportunities created by intelligent infrastructure and the responsibilities that accompany its development.

Research Principles

PROMETHEUS approaches research through a set of principles intended to promote clarity, intellectual independence, and responsible analysis.

Systems Thinking

Major technological transformations rarely occur in isolation. PROMETHEUS examines the relationships among technologies, infrastructure, institutions, economics, and human decision-making in order to understand the larger systems they create.

Facts, Analysis & Foresight

PROMETHEUS seeks to distinguish confirmed facts from analytical interpretation and forward-looking scenarios. Where the evidence is established, it should be identified as such. Where conclusions involve judgment or projections about the future, that distinction should remain clear.

Independent Inquiry

PROMETHEUS is an independent research project. Its purpose is not to advocate for a particular company, technology, political institution, or predetermined outcome, but to examine consequential developments wherever the evidence leads.

Human Stewardship

Technology is ultimately a human undertaking. PROMETHEUS therefore considers not only what intelligent systems may make possible, but also the responsibilities, institutions, safeguards, and decisions required to ensure that technological progress continues to serve human interests.

Founder & Author

David W Tietgen

David W Tietgen is the founder and author of the PROMETHEUS Research Project, an independent research initiative examining the technological, physical, and institutional infrastructure emerging around artificial intelligence.

His work focuses on leadership, decision-making, technological change, and the forces that shape societies over time. Drawing upon a lifelong interest in history and experience across aviation and real estate, his research emphasizes the connections between technological innovation, infrastructure, institutions, and human choices.

PROMETHEUS grew from a central question: What happens when artificial intelligence ceases to be simply a technology and begins to become part of the infrastructure upon which civilization depends?

Through PROMETHEUS, Tietgen seeks to examine that transformation with intellectual independence, historical perspective, and a commitment to distinguishing established facts from analysis and forward-looking possibilities.

The Work Ahead

PROMETHEUS is intended to be an ongoing body of research. WP-01 — The Next Digital Infrastructure Revolution — establishes the initial framework. Future publications will examine individual components of that framework in greater depth as the Intelligence Age continues to develop.
